I got expedited onto the army Cross-Country ski-team when I joined the military, won the fitness test, and they needed a female on the team - leaving for France just two weeks later.

At that point I had only even been downhill skiing once, 12 years before, so it was an eye-opening foray into what’s rapidly become some of my favourite sports.

As an athlete I’ve raced in Cross-Country and Biathlon teams for the Army, made it to World Cup races in Biathlon and SkiMo, qualified as a BASI ski-instructor – and even picked up downhill for fun on days off!

Skiing takes you to some of the most beautiful places - ski marathon races may be long, but they do have stunning views - and I’ve been lucky to do it with and meet some amazing friends along the way.

Protect Our Winters (POW) is an amazing climate advocacy organization that turns outdoor passion into climate action.

Together we unite millions of athletes, brand partners, and outdoor enthusiasts to push for clean air, water, and a healthy planet.

I’m part of Team POW and you can be too…

Winter sports need snow and cold temperatures and as a passionate athlete, across disciplines I’ve witnessed firsthand how climate change is already transforming our mountain ecosystems and undermining the livelihoods of the communities that depend on these environments.

Rising temperatures and unpredictable weather are shrinking glaciers, decreasing natural snowfall, and reducing reliable snow & ice cover. These changes have profound consequences - disrupting species and habitats, threatening biodiversity, upsetting ecological processes, and increasing hazards from erosion and landslides.

Seeing winters change from being dependably cold & snowy to racing on man-made snow can’t help but empower you to take action - to preserve both the cultural and economic fabric of mountain regions and the sports we love.
